Apple’s GarageBand is a multitracking tool that comes bundled with your Mac. Multitracking means mixing and editing several separate audio recordings or tracks in one piece of music. GarageBand can be used for basic audio recording, and whatever the tracks contain. Each track can be individually chopped and changed, made louder or softer, and generally edited in many ways.
All amps included in Garageband for iPad played with random riffs. I had some difficulty to find info, demo and video about those modeled amp. I'm using an USB mixer connected with the Camera Connection Kit. With a Mac and Amplitube this mixer has very nice tone, so i consider this a good start point even if work natively on 16 bit only. Using the Jam is easy, just plug your guitar into it with a guitar lead and then plug the Jam into your Mac, iPhone or iPad - it's powered off the USB so there's no need for batteries and the interface comes with adaptors for both Mac and iPad/iPhone.

GarageBand for Mac is an excellent tool for making music, and it can be made even better through these free plugins. Guitar amps, effects and other goodies, there's also a wealth of free plug. Apogee JAM is a USB guitar interface for connecting and recording studio quality electric guitar or bass with GarageBand on iPad, iPhone and Mac. Amps and effects.
Among Mac users, Apple’s GarageBand is the most widely used multitracking application (or sequencer), as it comes with your Mac and is very easy to use. However, it is not the only option. If you get seriously into music-making, you may find GarageBand to be limiting. In this case, you can try a more serious sequencing package, such as Apple’s Logic Pro. The full versions of professional applications are rather expensive, but they may help you to become a real music guru.
GarageBand allows you to record and edit layers of real sound and software instruments, just as you would with other competing packages. But, what sets GarageBand apart is its foolproof, user-friendly interface, and its incorporation of Apple Loops, such as rhythms, riffs, and sound effects that can be dragged and dropped into your collections. Indeed, no musical training is required to create something basic with this app.
GarageBand takes care of all the details, such as making sure that the loops are all in the same key, playing at the same tempo, and more. It can also create a podcast for you.
How to Create a Backing Track Using Loops
Launch GarageBand from Applications or the Dock.
Create a new project, when prompted.
If you would like to pick a tempo, key, and time signature, do so now. If not, choose the defaults, as you’ll be able to change them later using the Master Track settings.
Click on the eye button near the bottom-right, or press the Command key + L, to display the loop browser panel.
Now, you can use the category buttons to browse your options, clicking individual loops in the lower section of the panel to hear them.
Once you’ve chosen a loop, drag it into the empty grey space in the main part of the GarageBand window.
Now, a new track will appear containing a colored region of music.
To extend the region of music, hold your mouse pointer over its right-hand end and drag the region out to whatever length you need. For example, to loop a rhythm throughout the duration of the song. You can add more loops, such as bass, guitar, or drums, until you have built up a backing track.
Tip: To change the overall tempo, key, and time signature of an existing song, double-click the Master Track. If you cannot see it, click the Command key + B, or look in the Track menu. To quickly change the tempo of the song, select the metronome icon and click the displayed tempo to display a slider control.
Real and Software Instruments
One of the key concepts in GarageBand is the distinction between “real” and “software” instruments. In fact, every piece of sound falls into one of these two categories, including non-instrumental lines (such as vocals). Real instruments include anything you record via a microphone or hi-fi. Software instruments, by contrast, are virtual drum kits, violins, pianos, and other instruments. You can play software instruments using a MIDI or on-screen keyboard. You can also drag them into loops based on software-instrument sounds. Either way, music is just a set of marks on a grid that instruct the computer to play particular notes at particular times. It is easy to distinguish “real” and “soft” sections at glance: real ones bear sound-waves, while soft ones look more like piano rolls. Each track deals exclusively with either software or real instruments.
Recording Software Instruments
You should have an empty Grand Piano Track at the top of the screen. If you would like to choose a different instrument, you can either double-click the piano’s name, or add a separate track using the “+” button at the bottom-left of the window.
Hp 620 wifi drivers. You can play your instrument of choice, either with the on-screen keyboard, using the Command key + K, your computer keyboard (if you hit the Command key + Shift + K, this combination will show you which letter-keys correspond to which notes), or a connected MIDI keyboard. You can set up the connected MIDI keyboard in the Audio/MIDI pane of GarageBand’s Preferences (the Command Key + ,).
Real Vocals or Instruments
To get home-made sounds into GarageBand, you should attach a mic or instrument to your Mac’s line-in socket or audio interface. Do not connect a guitar directly to your Mac, if you are recording it. Instead, plug the electric guitar into a normal guitar amp and take a line out from the amp, or simply mic-up the amp. Then, click the “+” button (you can also use the shortcut Command Key + Option + N), and choose to create a New Real Instrument Track. This will reveal the Track info panel to the right, where the user can select the instrument he or she is going to record.
If you cannot find your instrument there, choose Basic Track. You will find various styles in the right-hand column, which will add effects and EQs to the track. Note that the style is not set in stone, and you can switch off or change it at any time if you double-click the track’s title. You can also select it and hit the Info button (Command key + I).
When you are ready to record, follow the same red-button procedure as before, and hit the spacebar when you are done. A wave form will appear in the track to represent the sound you have recorded. Perma green magnum owners manual.
To open the newly recorded segment in the wave editor, double-click it. Now you can cut, copy, and paste sections of the wave (look in the Edit menu or use the standard shortcuts), tweak the tuning and tempo of a particular section, or change the overall pitch of the track.
If you make a mistake, you can always go back a step by pressing Edit-Undo, or by clicking the Command key + Z.
Mixing
Once you have assembled all the basic components of your track, it is time to get everything to work together. You can cut, copy, and paste segments of music, drag them around, and delete them by selecting them and pressing the backspace key.
Mixing a song is not just about content. It is about fine-tuning volume levels and subtly panning tracks to the left or right side of the stereo spectrum, that is towards the left or right speakers.
If you use the virtual knob and slider, you can change the overall level and pan for each track. But, if you would like to alter a track’s volume over time, click the downward arrow button to create a volume envelope. Click points on the line, and drag them to plot the volume shape you would like.
Fallout 4 minutemen armor. To create fade-ins and outs for the whole song, open the master track by clicking the Command key + B, and then use the same technique.
To Export Songs
There are options in the Share menu that allow you to export your track to iTunes, and for burning disks. If you are sending a song to iTunes, choose an artist name that you would like to use, which iTunes playlist you would like the song added to, and so on. You can also choose whether to create an MP3 or AAC file, and the audio quality setting of the mix you are creating. If you want to save space or email it to a friend, you can convert it using the Good Quality setting. Otherwise, use the default High Quality setting. You can even share your creation with other Mac music-makers.
Getting More Loops and Instruments
GarageBand comes with a wide selection of loops and instruments. However, you may wish to download more. You can choose from a selection of so-called Jam Packs, ranging from Remix Tools to Symphony Orchestra, with royalty-free loopshare marketed by Apple, as well as numerous software instruments.
To import downloaded loops and instruments into GarageBand, drag them into the Loops Browser. You can then add them to your Apple Loops Library. Once the loops are installed there, you can delete or archive the original source files.
A Few Notes About GarageBand
To delete a track, select it and choose Delete from the Track menu, or click the Command key + Shift.
GarageBand comes with a built-in instrument tuner. Highlight a real instrument track and then look for the option in the Control menu. You can use the shortcut Command key + F, to start using it.
You can resize the on-screen keyboard by dragging the bottom-right corner. To choose which range of keys are visible, either scroll using the arrows to the left and right, or click the top-right button to reveal a full-size keyboard with a draggable range control.
GarageBand input/output settings work independently of OS X’s. You will need to set up devices and audio interfaces in the application’s Preferences, not System Preferences.
When recording with a microphone, use headphones to monitor what is going on. Otherwise, you might end up recording feedback, and the sound from the speakers will leak into the microphone.
To fine tune EQ settings and add additional effects, click Edit in the Track Info panel. If you find the options overwhelming, enable the easy-to-use Visual EQ tool at the bottom, and use that to adjust the sound.
You can also import whole audio files, such as WAV, AIFF, AAC, Apple Lossless, or MP3 formats, into your song by dragging them from Finder or iTunes directly into the GarageBand window.
You can turn a track that you have played or recorded into a loop. Select a region and choose Add To Loop Library from the Edit menu.
You can temporarily silence a track and play it solo. You can lock it to avoid accidental changes using the row of buttons below its name.
GarageBand features a way to buy and download music lessons.
The Apple support site has many tips and troubleshooting advice to help you use GarageBand.
With iLife (a feature that was discontinued), when users closed GarageBand projects, they could choose to create an iLife preview. This feature allowed users to preview their project with Quick Look without having to open it in GarageBand.

The iRig HD 2 from IK Multimedia is arguably the best beginner audio interface for recording guitar with Garageband.
I own three audio interfaces: the Focusrite Saffire 6USB, the Scarlett 2i2, as well as the iRig HD 2.
Due to the fact I rarely record vocals, I pretty much always stick to the iRig HD 2, on account of the fact it’s super small and convenient.
To be truthful, I would argue that, while the iRig HD 2 is not the absolute “best” you can get in terms of audio interfaces, it is great for just recording guitar and it’s the perfect interface if you’re looking for a unit that will do the trick while also being inexpensive.
With that said, there are other solid audio interfaces on the market that have multiple inputs for not only the guitar, but also vocals, so there aren’t any limitations in terms of how many instruments you can use at once.
For instance, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 has two inputs, that way you can have your guitar/bass/etc plugged in while also recording vocals. You can read more about the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 at this link here.
The iRig HD 2, on the other hand, is only meant for playing the guitar, so if that’s all you’re looking for – just a simple audio interface for playing the guitar – then the HD 2 is a great choice, especially considering its relatively cheap price.
On the other hand, there are some issues with it. My biggest gripe with the iRig HD 2 is the fact it’s made out of plastic, which, to me, always communicates “cheap.”
Other than that, the iRig HD 2 doesn’t have a lot of down-sides to it, with the exception of some users finding it difficult to get their computer to recognize it.
Let’s say you’ve purchased the iRig HD 2 and you’re having trouble getting Garageband to recognize it; this problem can be solved by rebooting Garageband with your iRig HD 2 plugged in.
It’s also worth noting that if you have a new MacBook Pro, rather than one of the old ones, you’ll need a USB-C to USB port, so make sure to pick one of those up if that’s the case. Although, if you own a new MacBook Pro, you probably are already aware of the necessity of an adaptor.

If you want to get a USB-C to USB-B port, I recommend checking out this one right here on Amazon. This one, in particular, has four USB ports, so you can plug in multiple devices if necessary.
Let’s move on to the details and specifications of the unit, as well as what comes with the box.
***The iRig HD 2 is compatible with PC, Mac, iPad, and iPhone.
What Comes With The iRig HD 2

Micro USB to USB Cable (Will Need an Adaptor if you’re computer is brand new)
A clip for attaching it to the microphone stand.
***Amplitube 4 for Mac and PC (and Amplitube for iOS)
***It’s worth noting that many of the amplifiers and presets that come with Amplitube 4 are locked, which for me, has rendered Amplitube 4 completely worthless. I never use it. From what I understand, you actually have to purchase each amp model.

It has a Micro USB Device Output and a 1/8″inch Headphone port.
And LED light that communicates that it’s turned on and whether the signal is too hot or just right.
It flashes blue when it’s turned on, flashes red when the signal is too hot, and it flashes green when it’s just right.
It has a gain control knob on it on the left-hand side of the unit, also known as a pre-amp control. In other words, you can turn down the strength of the signal in case you’re clipping.
Cat engine model c12 repair manual. It’s worth noting that if you’re using a guitar with active (battery-powered such as EMGs) pick-ups, you might have to turn down the gain because the signal is much stronger.
It also has a microphone clip on the back for clipping it to your microphone on stage or wherever, not only for the convenience of use but also for using the unit as a stomp-box. We’ll dive into what I mean by that later.
On the bottom of the iRig HD 2, it has two ports, the 1/4 instrument jack as well as a 1/4 amplifier jack.
What this allows, is for us to send a signal to the computer/Garageband, and to an amplifier at the same time, so we can use an amplifier/cab combo for a speaker system, and also record it through Garageband at the same time.
In other words, in case you want to play your traditional amp and cabinet set-up, including with all of your pedals and whatnot, you can send the “traditional set-up” signal into Garageband for recording, or you can play it through Garageband’s Amp Designer.
If you want to read more about using the Amp Designer, click the link here to read the article I wrote about it.
On the right-hand side of the unit, we have the FX-Thru switch as well as a headphone volume control.
The “FX” setting is for playing the guitar through Garageband’s interface. In other words, it sends the processed signal from the software, in this case, Garageband, to the iRig HD 2.
This means we can use the computer/Garageband as the amplifier/pedal effects.
The “Thru” setting is for the unprocessed signal, which means we’re using the “dry unprocessed signal,” of the guitar through the guitar amplifier, and using that signal and sending it into Garageband.
This might be confusing, so I’ll explain it another way.
How to install mp5 barrel. The “FX” setting is for playing the guitar using Garageband as the pedal-effects board/amplifier setting, and then sending that signal out to a guitar amplifier or a mixing board for playing a live show.
If you intend on only using the iRig HD 2 through the computer and playing it back through the speakers, then FX is what you want.

FX is also the setting you want if you’re going to plug your guitar pedals into the iRig and play it through your computer speakers.
The “Thru” setting means that we’re sending an unprocessed signal to a guitar amplifier or a mixing board. In other words, the “Thru” toggle switch means that we’re sending a signal unaffected by Amplitube or Garageband settings out to an amplifier or a mixing board.
The device is 24bit and has a 96kHz sampling rate, which means that the device is operating at what is commonly believed to be the industry standard for recording.
If you want to read more about what these terms mean, check out my article on audio interfaces, The Definitive Guide to Audio Interfaces.
Other Important Things To Consider
As I mentioned in passing above, if the LED light is flashing red, that means that you’re clipping, and you need to turn the gain on the audio interface down.
Aim to have the LED signal flashing green when you’re strumming hard on your guitar
For Amplitube 4, you actually have to purchase each model in the Custom Shop, which in my opinion, was a huge disappointment. Like I said above, if you know how to access these without paying $25 for each model, let me know.
The iRig HD 2 doesn’t work for microphones, it only works for bass and guitar.
Make sure you’ve selected “iRig HD 2” as the input, down in the Smart Controls in the Recording Settings. You can see what this looks like in the image below.
If you’re having issues getting Garageband to recognize the device, try and reboot Garageband with the iRig HD 2 plugged in. This is what I did when I first bought the device and had trouble getting the computer to recognize it. Additionally, you can go into Garageband’s preferences and change the “Output” and “Input” device settings.
Make sure your “Enable Audio Units” box is checked, which will allow you to enable various AU plug-ins, including Amplitube if you end up wanting to use it.
Guitar Amps In Garageband For Mac Windows 10
It’s also worth mentioning that, yes, you can use the iRig HD 2 with your guitar pedals. If you want to know how to plug your guitar pedals into Garageband while using the iRig HD 2 as an audio interface, click the link here.
I’ve also noticed that some MicroUSB cables don’t work with the iRig HD 2 for some reason. For instance, despite having the same cable as nearly all of my vapes, they don’t work in the same way, so make sure that you’re using the MicroUSB that comes in the box, rather than some other miscellaneous cable. This might just be an issue with the vape cables, but I can’t say for sure – just something to keep in mind.
How To Set Up The iRig HD 2
In terms of just getting the iRig HD 2 set up, it’s not that hard. It’s just a matter of plugging it into your computer, which looks a lot like the image below.
1) Plug your USB to USB-C adaptor into your computer
2) Plug the USB to MicroUSB cable into the adaptor
3) Attach the MicroUSB to your iRig HD 2
4) Plug your guitar cable into the iRig HD 2, and then run it into your guitar.
How To Access Amplitube 4 and Other Free Software
This part is optional, but in order to get access to Amplitube 4, Custom Shop, and the other plug-ins that it comes with, you must register the product with IK Multimedia on their website.
You don’t have to do this if you intend on just using the iRig HD 2 as is, however, it is necessary for accessing Amplitube.
1) Go to IK Multimedia’s website at www.ikmultimedia.com
2) Make an account with them.
How do you know that I am not using it from home? However, if you use it 'to much', they will block it regardless. ChadW wrote:'It only does that if you don't pay for it. 3) Register the iRig HD 2’s serial number with IK Multimedia. You can find the serial number for the product on the box.

There are also additional models with more than one input, so you can plug your guitar as well as your microphone into the same unit at the same time. It costs more money, however.
